What has my writing been missing? In a word…Consistency. To be exact, it’s actually daily consistency. I’ve been able to work myself up to writing consistently on a monthly basis but not more steadily than that. If I love writing, and I do, then I really need to go the extra mile with it daily. Even when it’s one new paragraph per day, that’s daily.
You don’t learn to swim by lying on a chaise lounge looking at the clear, cool water. And I won’t learn to writer better by waiting for inspiration or waiting for life to slow down enough to give me a chance.
I learn to write better by writing. A little every day. A lot every day. Either is fine as long as it’s something every day. This is the hardest lesson that I think I need to learn but I know that it is the key to doing what I love.
Disciplining myself to be consistent whether I feel like it or not.
Do you have problems with doing something that you love consistently? Does life get in the way of your passion? Do you feel like you’re halted before you even start? Even 10 minutes per day is consistent…and a lot of times you won’t be able to stop there…once you get started.
Go ahead…set an alarm for 10 minutes and do something…anything…toward one of your goals.
