Do you ever look in the mirror and wonder, who am I … really? Deep down? What are my dreams, my goals? What is my worth?
I have had those times. Times when the enemy knew just where to hit me to make me doubt my worth, my purpose, my God.
Oh, but how thankful I am for the Word. The one honest, pure place we can go to find those answers and so many more.
Who am I … really? Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?
“So, God created human beings in HIS OWN IMAGE. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them.”
Y’all, that’s right there in chapter one of the best book ever written. Genesis chapter 1, verse 27. We are made in His image! Every one of us. We resemble our Father. How I love that!
But we’re not carbon copies. Not even close. No, He made each of us an original work of art.
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”
The psalmist in Psalm 139 praises the God who created him for making him so wonderfully special and unique. This should be the prayer on all our lips, giving God the credit for being the most creative of all creatives, molding each of us into an original work of craftmanship.
Oh, but there’s more! Isn’t this fun?!
What are my dreams, my goals?
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Paul encourages the Ephesians in chapter 2, verse10, that we are all made as exceptional works of art, to bring to the world what God has already planned for us to do. We don’t do good things to earn our way into heaven or to win God’s approval. His grace has already covered all of that.
No, we do good things because He is good. And out of our vast love for Him, we want the rest of the world to know Him too. Our purpose is completely wrapped up in who He is. We were made for fellowship with Him. That’s it. Abide in Christ and He will direct us to the people, the community, the ministry where He wants to use us.
Do you ever doubt your value? Your worth? Maybe you’ve been rejected. Or you’ve lost your job. Maybe you have a prodigal child and question yourself as a parent. Maybe you’re older and not as strong in body as you once were and you wonder, why am I here? What can I do with these feeble bones?
No matter your doubts about your value, know that those questions only come from one source—the enemy. He doesn’t want you to rest in your worth as a child of God. As a masterpiece fashioned by the hand of God Himself. That would destroy the schemes of the devil, if all of us walked in our true value.
What is my worth?
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8
“…for your love for me is very great. You have rescued me from the depths of death.” Psalm 86:13
“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1a
And there are so many other scriptures that let us know just how much He values us.
In my newest release, “Love’s True Home”, Ally, a student ministry leader, counsels a brokenhearted teenage girl to read Psalm 139 every morning before her feet hit the floor because she knows that’s the only place this precious child of God can find her true worth.
If you doubt, open the Word and let God show you Himself how very much He values you.
