When Things Don’t Go the Way You Anticipate
By Jodie Wolfe
Who knew that when I picked the topic/theme of my recent release, that God would lead me through the same journey? The premise of my new release, Taming Julia, came about by wondering what would happen if a man sent for a genteel woman and who showed up was totally opposite of that. And no, God didn’t have me be a mail-order bride. 🙂
My hero, Drew Montgomery, has to deal with the topic of when things don’t go the way you anticipate. His new wife that he married by proxy isn’t at all what he wanted, but they’re already married when she arrives, so he can’t just send her back to Texas. Jules (Julia) has lived all her life along the trail, so she doesn’t have any experience when it comes to living in town, or being the wife of a preacher. These two go on quite a journey to realize that just because something happens that we don’t expect, doesn’t mean that God isn’t working in their lives.
I wrote this book over eight years ago. At the time it was being written, it was considered by Harlequin’s Love Inspired Historical line. It went through two rounds of edits with them, only to have it turned down. The story snagged the interest of an agent, who signed me. Years and years went by and each publisher said no. It was sitting in limbo for several years, not going anywhere. My agent and I decided to mutually separate. Things didn’t look great.
Taming Julia hadn’t found a home. But then God led me to White Rose Publishing. They had the first three chapters for months before they asked for the full manuscript. Months passed again and then in an email I received a book contract. I had many times through the years when it looked like Taming Julia would be picked up by a publisher. Finally it happened. In God’s timing. In God’s way. I too had to deal with what happens when things don’t go the way I anticipated. Through the journey I learned that I can trust God. He knows what’s best, even when it’s a LONG time before the answer comes.
How about you, how do you do in the waiting time?
In 1875, Kansas bachelor Drew Montgomery’s sole desire is to serve God, but his congregation’s ultimatum that he marry or leave, forces him to advertise for a wife by proxy.
Jules Walker strides into Drew’s life wearing breeches and toting a gun and saddle–more cowboy than bride. After years on the trail, she’s not exactly wife material, but she longs for home and family, and will do anything to ensure Drew never discovers what she really is.

Thank you for having me here today!
Jodie, that’s what happened to ME with White Rose. They took a chance on me after “Westward Hope” wasn’t a good fit for several other houses. There are no coincidences with God, and especially not in Christian fiction.
Thanks for stopping by, Kathy. 🙂 Congrats on your book.
