Psalm 11
I trust in the Lord for protection.
So why do you say to me,
“Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!
The wicked are stringing their bows
and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings.
They shoot from the shadows
at those whose hearts are right.
The foundations of law and order have collapsed.
What can the righteous do?”
But the Lord is in his holy Temple;
the Lord still rules from heaven.
He watches everyone closely,
examining every person on earth.
The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked.
He hates those who love violence.
He will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked,
punishing them with scorching winds.
For the righteous Lord loves justice.
The virtuous will see his face.
Many of the psalms of David start out in a lamenting way. David looked around and sometimes it seemed that evil was rewarded and he didn’t understand why. He was bold in voicing his honesty to God. He was real with God. He said what he felt. I too can do this. God isn’t afraid of my questions. He beckons me to pray any question that comes across my mind—even doubts and accusations. It is only when I am real with God that He can lead me to His ways of thinking. Like David, my questions slowly turn into facts and I realize that God is always on His throne, He is always watching over me, and He eventually brings justice out of all unrighteousness.
The voice of truth speaks louder than my doubts.
