Making it to the Olympics requires that an athlete practice their skills over and over again. However, simply repeating the same actions is only the beginning. They need to improve on their results each day.
A golfer cannot become satisfied with a par three average. They need to keep striving for a par two or even a one.
A gymnast can’t be satisfied with just going through the motions of their routine. They must improve on each step and movement along the way until they can do each move as perfectly as possible.
A baseball player cannot settle for a .250 average in their hitting. They need continual improvement in the way they make contact with the ball so that they can grow to a .300 or better average.
In a similar way, a Christian needs to strive for improvement in their continual efforts to imitate the way Jesus lived. Each day is an opportunity to grow and push passed my comfort zone. My comfort zone boundaries should be stretched a little more each day—even an inch larger is wonderful improvement. It’s not the amount of the change but the fact that you’re continually changing that matters the most.
1 Corinthians 15:58 says to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work. Abundant, steadfast work is needed.
And always remember that Jesus is there with you, coaching you along the way. He won’t leave you nor forsake you. And with Him by your side, continual improvements are very possible. Over and over again.
