One day when I was a teenager, I was at an amusement park with a friend. We were having fun and looking for the next ride in which to use our tickets. I always avoided upside down rides. Just thinking about them, made me very uncomfortable.
I noticed a ride that had just finished. There were multiple cart type containers in which to sit, two people per container. The carts were connected to the center spoke of the circle. I figured that it twirled you around really fast and I thought that it looked fun.
“That one looks fun,” I spoke up.
My friend simply said, “Okay.”
So, we got in line, gave the man our tickets, and he helped us into our cart and secured the side gate.
Once we were safely sitting in the cart, my friend asked me, “Do you know what this one does?”
“It goes round and round, I guess,” I innocently said.
“Well, yes, but it goes round and round as the whole circle turns.”
My eyes widened as I realized what that meant—a lot of upside down time!
I gulped but realized it was too late now.
I actually had a fun time on my very first upside down ride ever. If I would have known beforehand, I would have never gotten on that scary ride. But since I didn’t know, I rode it and ended up enjoying it.
Sometimes, I over think and over worry.
However, the bible tells me in Matthew 6:34 not to worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow may contain things I cannot fathom right now because I’m not there. I’m in today, not tomorrow. Today has enough to think about without throwing in extra worries for the future.
So, I need to concentrate on this moment and not overanalyze my future moments. Too much worry will paralyze me and prevent me from enjoying today.
Life is short and precious. And it’s meant to be lived today, one bite at a time—not fretting for the future.
Don’t look back at regrets. Don’t gaze inward at fears. And don’t look too far forward.
One step at a time, trust that God can get you through anything, and take time to enjoy all of the good moments.
