The most important type of confidence to have is God-confidence. The book of Job puts it like this: Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence? Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope? (Job 4:6).
Knowing that there is a God of the universe that loves me deeply and sent His only Son to bring hope to the world gives me confidence that I can get through the inevitable trials of life. And I can get through those trials with my integrity and hope intact when I follow the rules that God set up as guidance and protection.
The book of Isaiah also says that quietness and confidence can be my strength but only when I look to the Lord for that strength (Isaiah 30:15). When God rules over my heart and my plans, His righteousness will bring peace, quietness, and confidence (Isaiah 32:16-17).
There is a peace and contentment when I know that God is in control. He is in control over my successes and my failures. He can make both of them work out okay in the end. Knowing this makes me a bit bolder to step out in the future. Although this isn’t always easy to do even when I know God is there to comfort and help me.
The only way that self-confidence comes into the picture is when I remember that God made all of the intricate parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb before I was born. He made me for a reason so when I seek to be the person He made me to be, I can be fully confident (Psalm 139:13-16).
So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! ~ Hebrews 10:35
