Psalm 1
Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.
But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.
They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.
For the Lord watches over the path of the godly,
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
Joy begins with God and His word. A tree that is next to a stream will never be thirsty because its roots draw from the water. In the same way, I draw truth from the Bible and that truth gives me spiritual energy. The more I meditate on, learn from, and apply the truths of God, the more fruit I produce. Fruit means having my life count for something. I don’t always know how God uses the things that I do. I may not always see the fruit but I can rest that if I’m following God’s word then He is doing something with my obedience. However, He usually does show some of the fruit along the way to encourage me.
