Writing for Dr. Dwight Croy was first, desperation and survival in my early years of school. Late in the 1960’s creativity was emphasized over proper English writing. After the practical matter of writing to get good grades at various levels of education, writing came out of a development of faith and God’s leading.
A life of ministry that God led me in dictated or formed my writing. My doctorate demanded a mechanism to present what was studied. So, I wrote a non-fiction book to propagate information to churches. It was satisfying and I learned a lot about the process of writing and being published. Through the process I learned to let go of expectations and write with conviction as unto the LORD.
After retiring from the Army Chaplaincy, I taught 13–17-year-old juvenile boys English, History, and Bible. Troubled youth showed me that there was not much out there for boys to read. So now I do Biblical Fiction for boys. While enjoyable, it makes me study and learn as well.
Writing for different people such as military, church newsletters, and publications brings with each writing a sense of calling. Speaking what the LORD wants to communicate through His Word. Writing continues to be informed by ministry to God’s church the people of God.
My present role as an adviser to churches without a pastor keeps me in touch with people in the process of sharing the Good News of the Gospel and discipleship. Without the LORD, I would not have anything worth writing. He brings His truth to bear on what I write.
