Walking can burn up to 136-238 calories per hour. Walking is great for exercise but it’s also great for your soul.
- Confidence – Walking with your shoulders elevated, your head straight up, and your arms swinging causes your breathing to be smooth and steady. When your breathing is steady, not shallow, you think clearer and calmer. Therefore, your confidence soars a bit. And…if you add a smile along with this posture and movement, it would be almost impossible to feel depressed.
- Controlling your tongue – When you are tempted to say something you don’t really mean out of anger, it would be better to excuse yourself for a moment and take a short walk. Whether the walk is indoors or outdoors, it will give you a chance to see a different perspective and re-focus. Then when you come back, you’ll be less likely to speak out of anger.
- Different perspective – When you’re experiencing a negative emotion like boredom, it is better to step away from whatever is causing that feeling. You may have to finish the task because it is important but you can walk away for a few moments, re-focus, and stretch your muscles and then you will return with a renewed spirit. It may only be a renewed spirit to finish and be done with it but it will be new nonetheless.
So…walk regularly…indoors…outdoors…wherever…Just move.
…the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. ~ Micah 6:8
