It’s the hard things that matter.
There are things in life that I want to do but I have trouble getting around to them–plant a garden, make a gourmet meal, write a book, paint a picture, run a 5K, etc. The exact thing is different for everyone. But deep down, you know what it is for you. It’s the thing that is important and will bring you joy but not necessarily urgent. So…it gets pushed aside–to the bottom of the to-do list.
These things sometimes feel like hard things. They’ll take a lot of effort. I wonder if they are really worth doing. After all, they’re not practical.
But them not being practical is the precise reason that they matter. They aren’t practical. They are better than practical–they have potential to bring joy into my life and maybe even the lives of other people as well.
So, go ahead paint that picture, take that photograph, write that poem, or play that instrument. Practical duties sustain our life but artful adventures bring hope and wonder into our life.
What are you putting off that has potential to bring you joy?
