The apostle Paul wrote these words:
To keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
I feel that everyone has something, whether mental, physical, or emotional, that they will have to be on guard about for their entire life. However, by God’s grace, that thing can be tempered and controlled even though it never goes away completely.
For some people, it may be an addiction of some kind. Some people may have a hot temper. Some may have a physical ailment. It could be the temptation to worry and be anxious.
For me, it is a fear of not having human approval or worrying too much about what other people think. If I let it, it can stop me from stepping out and simply being the person God created me to be. However, when I pray about it, God gives me wisdom to do the things he may be calling me to do in spite of that fear.
I feel that I will always have this fear to some degree because it keeps me looking to God’s strength to compensate for my weakness. And that is a good place to be—resting in God’s almighty strength—instead of pretending that I have strength of my own.
God’s strength works best within my weakness. God’s grace is what I need.
What is a weakness of yours that God can overpower, when you let Him?
