The truth is, I don’t know where I would be without fiction. Honestly, there are times when I’ve been stressed and agitated and I’ve picked up a story that made me laugh out loud. The book was like medicine. Sweet tasting, rejuvenating, stress-relieving medicine.
Other times, I’ve been transported to lands far away and learned a bit more about other cultures. It wasn’t just armchair travel, it gave me insight, empathy and a better understanding of my fellow human beings.
There have been times when a book has broken my heart and brought to light an injustice or the plight of those without a voice. I’ve been enriched by these stories that have caused me to pause and think, and pray.
Then there were the words on the pages of books took my imagination to new heights, in worlds built by extraordinary minds who created these vivid worlds for their characters to live in.
The edge-of-your-seat, who done it kind of books are a welcome change of pace when I need it.
Historical fiction takes us to times that have passed, whether they be medieval, or in the nineteenth century, I love imagining what it might have been like to live in those times. I always come back to being grateful I live in the present day with my coffee and drive-throughs, but still, there’s always space for swashbuckling heroes or fan waving ladies.
Getting lost in the pages of a book, so much so that when you emerge and look around and wonder where you are, is a feeling that never gets old. Ever heard of the term: Book hangover?
But most of all, I love books that touch the heart and leave the reader changed.
How about you?
A Promise. A High School Reunion. And a pact that proves harder to keep.
Research librarian Savannah Sanderson wants nothing more than to escape into her happily-ever-after novels with their larger-than-life fictional heroes. Once a reckless troublemaker, Michael McCann fled town after graduation. Now a professional technical rescuer, he’s back for the reunion, but on his trip down memory lane, he soon comes face to face with unresolved issues, namely Savannah.
Before the night is over, a pact between these two old friends will lead them on an adventure into uncharted emotional territory where Michael must confront his past regrets and find the courage to reveal the truth. But can Savannah fly from her sheltered nest and risk her heart on a real-life hero?

Thank you for hosting me Jennifer!
One of the questions I ask when I meet a new person, or anyone really, is “What are you reading right now?” Getting a recommendation from a friend makes me want to pick it up too. And if I’ve read the book, a great conversation ensues about plot, characterization, tone, motivations, thousands of interesting things! I’m always a little amazing when people say they’re not reading anything. How can that be?! How can you be too busy?! I crave books, crave time to read, and you explained it perfectly, Melody!
Thank you Jeanie, I know what you mean. I feel a bit lost if I am between books.
