The Asbury University revival has touched people in and around the university, as well as other universities around the country that are joining in too. I’m praising God for this beautiful movement and also praying that it spreads far and wide.
Here are 3 ways to have revival in your own life.
Remember
Remember the first few months after you saw Jesus as your Lord for the first time. Recall the immense feeling of being loved and known, more than any human could ever make you feel. Do the things you did back then when you first realized that God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son. Listen to the same music that you listened to then. Music has a way of bringing memories to the forefront of your mind. You might want to make a playlist of at least 10 songs that you loved the first year that you were a Christian.
Read
The book of John in the bible is a simple book to read but it’s full of rich theology.
Recall the Light that shines in the darkness of the world. This Light can never be extinguished by the world, no matter how dark it gets.
Read about John the Baptist speaking of the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Read about many miracles.
See Jesus teaching Nicodemus how to be born again. Remember where you were when you first realized that you were born again.
Read about Jesus telling a Samaritan woman everything she ever did. Feel confident that He knows everything about you as well—the good, bad, and even the ugly. He knows everything about you and yet still loves you.
Read about a man that couldn’t walk for thirty-eight years that was instantly healed by Jesus.
Learn about One who controls the wind and the waves and can even walk on water.
Learn of how to never be hungry or thirsty again.
See a woman entrenched in a sinful life. What did Jesus say to her? Did He tell her how miserable she was? No! He forgave her. But He didn’t leave her at that. He also told her to leave her life of sin.
Learn about a kind of blindness that is worse than simply not being able to see. Watch people who see with their own eyes and yet still refuse to believe.
Learn about your Lord and Savior who desires to be your Good Shepherd. He wants to lead and help you.
See Lazarus raised from the dead.
Watch the One who has a right to sit on a throne humble Himself and wash His disciples’ feet.
See Jesus die. See Him buried. But then see Him rise again!
Before the world came to be, Jesus was “I Am.” And He is still the same today and even tomorrow.
Yes, the book of John will show you that Jesus is Messiah, the Son of God and you can have life in His name.
React
Then take everything that you learn in the Word of God and begin to live a faith-filled, active life. Help other people whenever you can. Share the hope that is embedded in your heart and the reason for that hope with others. You’re saved by faith in Christ alone but after that you should bear fruit by helping others, physically, emotionally, and most importantly spiritually.
The first three Great Awakenings happened in the 1700s and then again in the late 1800s to the early 20th Century. These Awakenings revived churches, but they also spread throughout everyday life. They influenced the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. When people grow to know God’s love more, they will want to work to effect change all over. Revival starts within a person but the fruit branches out to touch all walks of life.
So, to experience revival, remember, read, and then react.
Lord Jesus, Bring revival in our current day. Amen.
